Thanks to Edel Golf and Mike Adams for this great day of wedge fitting and wedge technique training!

I have been looking forward to this day of training on wedge fitting and wedge technique for a long time.  And Edel Golf and Mike  Adams, developer of the Edel Wedges and a Top 50 golf teacher, did not disappoint one bit.

Mike started the day by focusing on helping us understand how different types of golfers swing the golf club, and why that is important to helping them hit their wedge shots.  What he said makes sense, and I ordered a recent book that he coauthored – "Golf Magazine Best Driving Instruction Book Ever!" to get a better understanding of his teaching approach.

Then he discussed how the Edel Wedges are designed, based on his evaluations of many wedge grinds that are being and have been played on the PGA tour in the past.  He calls the Edel Wedges "All Terrain Vehicles" that – when you have the right ones in your hands for the way you hit your wedge shots – can help you hit shots of any type and difficulty.

That might have been enough  to make it a good day – but THEN he asked all of us what our most feared wedge shots are, and not only showed us the proper technique for hitting them but why this technique makes sense.  Some of the shots we worked on included:

  • shots out of tight lies;

  • shots out of fluffy rough;

  • shots over a bunker to a short pin;

  • standard bunker shots;

  • downhill bunker shots (I did this one, successfully after he taught me how);

  • low wedge shots that hop a  few times and then stop.

An approach he took when working  with each of us to hit our "demon" shots was based on his philosophy that "The only way to face your demons is to be in the most uncomfortable position possible."  What does that mean?  Well, the fitter who was afraid of hitting thin shots hit off of a putting surface toward a hotel building about 30 yards away (skull?).  When I hit downhill bunker shots, there were people standing about 20 yards  in front  of me.  Challenging but fun.

This day was worth the wait – thanks again Edel Golf and  Mike Adams!

The Fit Is IT!!
