Do golfers need new driver head technology every 6 months?
Until this year, a golfer could count on new OEM club designs coming out near the end of the calendar year, and being able to buy last year's designs at "bargain" prices when the new equipment was released. But things seem to be getting so competitive in the large companies that many are now coming out with new driver (and iron) designs more than once a year. Is there a message in this for golfers?
Recently, one of my AGCP friends asked on our forum what is the best OEM driver design presently available. More than one of the AGCP members who responded said that none of the OEM designs is better than the present Wishon 919 THI driver head. This head has been available from Wishon Golf for I think 3 years now – and will still be available next year. And other custom club companies like Alpha Golf have heads that are, in the hands of custom fitters, also producing results as good or better than the new OEM heads available.
As an example, recently I did a fitting with a female client who wanted more driver yards. She is now playing a Wishon 919 THI 15 degree loft driver, 41-1/2 inches in length, with a light-weight grip – and getting at least 20 more yards of distance with her drives. She would not find this club combination in a big-box golf store.
The Morale – new technology is NOT necessarily better. Many of the presently available custom driver heads – coupled with the expertise of a custom club fitter – are the equal of any new technology that you can buy. What do YOU deserve?
