Know Your Motivations To Help You Achieve Your Golfing Goals!
For 2014, I have decided to set some specific goals for my business and personal life. I am using a process developed by Michael Hyatt, author of the book Platform and an expert in helping leaders become more productive. If you are interested in doing something to give you a push to achieve business and personal goals in 2014, you would do well to investigate his Best Year Ever Process.
There are five specific elements of the process that Michael has developed for goal setting and achievement. One of them has been particularly interesting for me, and I think might help you to set an achieve exciting new golfing goals in 2014. For each goal you are interested in achieving – identify what are your Specific Motivations for achieving that goal. I had never thought about identifying specific motivations for goal setting in the past . But as I look back and think about the times I have achieved something great, motivations have played a big part.
In April of this past year, I decided to set a goal of truly developing an improved short game. Now I have "thought" about doing this in the past, but this time was different. Why? – because, this time looking back, I had some VERY clear motivations that pushed me to practice my short game for at least an hour almost ever week since April. The result is that my short game is a lot better than in the past, and I can see that reflected in my golf scores this past year.
Great motiviations will get you Excited To Achieve. They will keep you pushing toward your goals when you think it may not be worthwhile to keep at it. Consider – if you really want to get better at some part of your golf game next year – what would be your Motivations for achieving your goals. If you do – watch what can happen!
Happy New Year to all of you – and Great Golf in 2014.
