True Custom Fit Golf Clubs Outperform Off-The-Rack Clubs!
The Second Annual Knoxville Social Slam – focused on using social media for marketing – was held last Friday. One of the speakers was Tom Webster, the Vice President of Strategy for Edison Research. He did not know it but he talked about the value of Custom Fit Golf Clubs!!
During his entertaining and informative talk, he presented a quote that came from Don Rumsfeld (now showing this does not reflect my political leanings!)…
"There are known knowns. These are things we know that we know.
There are known unknowns. That is to say, there are things that we know now we don't know.
But there are also unknown unknowns. These are things we do not know we do not know."
Well, last week I had the opportunity to do some club specs for two players, and in both cases found out things that they did not know that they did not know. These were….
1. In the first case, a player gave me a 3 wood to reshaft – he said he liked the head of this club but has never been able to hit it. I did the specs for it, and found out it was very light, but also that the butt flex of the shaft – As Purchased – was about 3 Flexes Too Stiff for his swing speed, and the tip flex was even stiffer. No surprise he cannot hit this club. I had reshafted his driver – he gained 20 yards when I did so – and am reshafting the 3 wood with a shaft that will work well for him.
2. In the second place, a 4 handicap friend of mine asked me to regrip his clubs, so I did specs on some of his irons and his hybrids. He swings his 5 and 6 iron somewhere over 90 mph, and has X Stiff shafts in them, pretty good. But he has 2 hybrids – I did the flex measurements for these and one of them was a Men's Regular flex (by the standard I use) and the other was a Ladies flex. I cannot imagine how he can hit these clubs consistently well. Again – purchased Off The Rack.
These kinds of results happen over and over. And they are just for clubs that I have tested. The point?
When you are Custom Fit for golf clubs, you get golf clubs that truly fit your swing characteristics.
Custom Fitting does NOT include someone having a player hit a few clubs from a fitting cart.
When a Custom Fitter builds a set of clubs, he creates clubs to the EXACT specs from the fitting.
Off The Rack Clubs are UNKNOWN UNKNOWNS. True Custom Fit Golf Clubs are KNOWN KNOWNS. Which would YOU prefer to play with?
The Fit Is IT!!
