My wonderful bride and I drove to Georgia this weekend to visit my son, daughter in law, and beautiful grandsons. On the drive down, I mentioned to her my plan to (in the future) publish an eBook with some of the best blog posts I have done over the past few years. When I mentioned I would title it “The Fit Is IT!” she said “you mean like going to the tailor and having a suite made just to fit you?”
Wow. Without me saying much to her about the things I do as a custom clubfitter, she Absolutely Got It. When you buy a tailored suit, you do not buy one off the rack and hope it fits you. You have it custom tailored for your build, so that you look great in it – it Fits you.
For you as a Golfer though, I think there is a lot more to this. The real benefit of a custom fitting should perhaps be more focused on the capabilities of the Custom Fitter than on the golf clubs that you purchase. A qualified and talented Custom Fitter does more than have you hit a bunch of golf clubs from a fitting cart, perhaps adjust lie angles, and sell you these clubs. They understand the key variables that affect club performance, test you with different clubs to see how they perform for you, listen to what you say about how the clubs feel to you, and build you golf clubs to the Exact Specifications of the test clubs that you hit well.
I am delivering some clubs to a new client tomorrow, and she said to me “well maybe I need to come there (her husband is going to pick up the clubs) and be sure they will work for me.” I said she could, but the way I do business is that she can take the clubs, play with them some, and give me feedback. If they work well excellent, if they need some adjustments I will make them. Can you get your clubs adjusted just for you – like getting a suit made for you – when you buy them “off the rack?”
When you are having a True Custom Club Fitting, perhaps the most important thing you are purchasing is the capabilities of the Custom Fitter. Something to think about….
The Fit Is IT!!
