Hopefully when you opened this blog post, you noticed the new banner design on my web site.  Why change, you might ask?  Well, I have been doing a lot of soul-searching about what my personal motives are for being a custom club fitter.  And I think the new banner portrays "what juices me" about helping golfers play their best.

Yes, I spend a lot of time learning about how to be the best club fitter and club builder that I can be.  And while that is important, it in my view is not the entire story.

I simply get excited and delighted when someone gets to play better golf as the result of working with them to improve their golf clubs.  A great illustration of this happened this past weekend.  I met with a golfer who was struggling big-time to hit his irons well.  He felt like his lie angles might be wrong, but a major issue with his clubs is that they were way too long for him.  As a first step to helping him to be the best golfer he can be, I am going to shorten his present irons about an inch – and reweight all of them to get the best feel and performance for them.  Once he develops a bit more consistency with irons that are the right length for him, we will then work to do a full custom iron fitting to get him in clubs to produce more distance, best feel, more consistency, and less shot dispersion.

In addition though, I had him show me how he putts.  His present putter is at least 2 inches too long for him, its lie angle was way too flat, it had too much loft, and its grip was not close to on straight.  I increased the lie angle and loft for him, and put a new grip on correctly.  At least for the present time he will grip this putter down about 2 inches when he putts.  I can almost guarantee that he will start making more putts and feel more confident on the greens with these improvements.

So yes – I am a golfer's cheerleader! – I love it when golfers decide to learn the truth about their present golf clubs, make a commitment to playing with clubs that truly fit them, and get to shoot lower scores and have more fun when they play golf.
