The SAM PuttLab Level 2 Certification Class was a great learning experience!
The first day on "the floor" at the PGA Show is always enjoyable and educational. But I have to say that I have been looking forward to taking the SAM PuttLab Level 2 Certification Class for an entire year. The Level 2 class – taught by Christian Marquardt, the developer of the SAM PuttLab – focused on how to move to the "next step" after doing a SAM PuttLab evaluation. That step being how to best teach golfers to improve their putting using the SAM PuttLab data.
It is hard to boil down the many pages of notes I took from the class into a few items to note. But here are just a few nuggets from the class:
- The putting stroke should be – and can be – a simple, neutral, natural motion. A good putting stroke can be very simple!
- Learning is all about feedback – no feedback, no learning.
- There are important differences in how one should help beginning golfers and very talented golfers improve their putting strokes.
- Practice to learn – but play to win. Playing should be very different from practicing.
There were many things discussed by Christian that will cause me to change how I organize my SAM PuttLab Improvement Sessions. All of these make perfect sense, and I am excited that I can take what I learned and help golfers to more effectively improve their putting.
Now – Level 3 Certification Next Year?
