The KFI Golf Tournament has raised over $650,000 of funds for the Ronald McDonald House in Knoxville, TN!
In 1990 a friend of mine – Dr. Mickey McArthur (now deceased) – asked me if I would be interested in playing in a "little golf tournament." I said yes – and so a love affair with a wonderful yearly golf event began.
The "First Annual Keys Filhauer Invitational Golf Tournament and Clambake" started 35 years ago, and became a must-play event for many golfers in Oak Ridge, TN and from other states as well. This link describes the history of the KFI tournament:

What started as a little yearly event for some friends to get together and play golf became a 120 golfer event that has raised over $650,000 of funds for the Knoxville Ronald McDonald House. Great competition, great organization, and great generosity to benefit a wonderful cause.
This past Saturday, the First and 35th (!) KFI tournament was held, and there were lots of wet eyeballs at the Saturday evening dinner. I am not sure yet how much money was raised this year, but all of us are hoping that the total figure is now over $700,000.
Why discuss this in my weekly blog post? Well, to me this event symbolizes the best of golf – competition, giving, and friendship. My wife reminded me this weekend that attending the KFI was one of the first dates that we had (something I did not remember). We are all going to miss it, but we all are going to continue to feel blessed for getting the opportunity to be involved in something so meaningful and fun!
Thanks Keys and everyone involved in making this a wonderful experience!
The Fit Is IT!!
